On the first Saturday of the Somerton Music and Arts Festival, events come into the Market Place at the ancient heart of our lovely town. The centre of our town becomes traffic free for the day and will see a wide range of market stalls both inside and out. The official opening will be performed by the Somerton Town Crier followed by lots of free entertainment from local musicians and dance groups likely to include :-
Contact us via the Festival website or message us via Facebook or Twitter if you would like to perform.
The Festival ticket office moves to the Market Place where you can buy tickets for events throughout the Festival as well as tickets for the Prize Draw. Meet members of the Committee at the Festival stall at the centre of the action and find out more about how the Festival is organised each year.
Somerton’s Mini-Museum will be opening the Pinney Room all day on Saturday 7th July on the Festival Market Day. Come and see maps, books and photographs of old Somerton, houses, street names, the railway – and much more. A chance to ask about your family history and the history of your house. The Marmaduke Cradock Trust looks after some Somerton historical items and has digital records of many old photographs and archives, so come along and see what went on before we were here!
The Silent Soldiers Scheme
2018 is the centenary of the end of the First World War and we are remembering all the men who survived the War and came home. We are researching the many men who went to the War from Somerton and we hope to hear from lots of people who live in Somerton now about their grandfathers, great-uncles and others who were called up – what were their experiences of the War? What did they do when they came home? What has happened to their family since 1918?
