‘Opera isn’t just Shrieking Ladies and Fat Tenors!’

July 6, 2018 @ 7:30 pm - 9:30 pm

Standard Ticket - £10

There are a lot of people who absolutely love opera and others who hate it. Quite often the reason might be how you’ve been introduced to this type of musical entertainment. For example, if you’ve dived straight into the deep end with something like Wagner’s Ring Cycle you might get put off for life! Opera can certainly be fun and very enjoyable if you go about it in the right way.

In this light-hearted and humorous event James Mitchell takes you gently through the foothills of opera with famous recordings, opera on film, and even singing the odd aria himself! He’ll also tell you which operas to start with and what to do before your visit to the opera house or the cinema.

To make your evening more enjoyable James will tell you some of his favourite stories of what can go wrong on the operatic stage.

James Mitchell, Baritone, is Artistic Director of Opera Unmasked which promotes an understanding of Opera and also Chairman of Kennet Opera in Newbury.

James Mitchell’s Talk is sponsored by John and Pauline Saunders

Ticket price includes a glass of Italian wine and nibbles
